Actor Will Ferrell Sells Old Milwaukee Beer—In Davenport, Iowa?

Will Ferrell has made a puzzling professional move recently, but one that’s creating a lot of buzz. Namely, the comedic actor made a series of advertisements for Old Milwaukee beer in the unlikely state of Iowa.

Daren Metropoulos, co-owner of Pabst Brewing Company, the parent company of Old Milwaukee, has even stated that Ferrell volunteered to do these ads, for free, because he loves Old Milwaukee. In fact, Ferrell reportedly approached the company about doing these commercials for them. It’s only fair, then, that PBC gave him full creative license on these ads. The result was a series of off-beat commercials, done in the inimitable Ferrell style, that are currently airing in Davenport.

The recent publicity that Old Milwaukee is getting must please Daren Metropoulos. In 2010, he and his brother Evan took charge of PBC, the oldest privately owned brewery in America. True to their ambitious natures, the brothers were quick to state their intentions to revive some of the faltering labels of this 167-year-old company.

One of these labels was the old Colt 45, which Daren Metropoulos and his brother Evan decided needed a facelift. The result was a new product, a Flavored Malt Beverage called Blast by Colt 45.

Old Milwaukee, on the market since 1849, is another brand that may need a slight revival. Although still popular (it is PBCs second highest selling beer after Pabst Blue Ribbon). Although he hasn’t stated how he feels about Ferrell’s promotional efforts, Daren Metropoulos must be ecstatic at the free publicity this affords one of the most iconic of brews in the PBC stable.

Ferrell, meanwhile, has not discussed his decision to volunteer his time to Old Milwaukee and Pabst Brewing Company. Part of the infamous Saturday Night Live troupe and star of such smash films as Elf and Anchorman, the funny man seems to be enjoying his job as spokesman, though.
